I have been informed by the printer that the magazine will be ready for pick up on Friday morning. So I thought I'd start saying a few thank yous.
I will start with our wonderful printer, Alan at Thermowest. Alan has been extremely helpful and efficient with every issue, delivering a quality product at a great price. He has been patient as we learned about the business of printing magazines, and offered many helpful suggestions.
If you are looking for printing, I suggest you give him a call.
His website details can be found on our links page.

Another successful meeting with lots of people attending. There were some very interesting stories on the theme of 'A Collector's Passion.' I am sure some of these pieces will appear in future issues of Showcase magazine.
A fairly technical workshop followed, on Point of View. I hope the topic is a little clearer now, and if anyone wants any more explanation, please feel free to email me.
Topic for next meeting is 'Watery Escapades.' I think this is a topic we can all have fun with.
For the next meeting we will be doing a photo-prompt creative writing exercise. If everyone can bring in an interesting photo, it will give us more variety to work from.

Next meeting this Friday 3rd May. Topic is "The Discard Pile." Or free choice of course. I have not had time or inspiration to write a workshop, so I'll either be stealing one off the internet or we'll do a creative writing exercise. If you have any preferences, please let me know!

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of Johanna Lussenberg. Although illness has kept Johanna from the circle for many years, those of us lucky enough to be present during her tenure will remember her as a beautiful, strong-minded lady. She will be sorely missed.

Wow, less than 70 days until the launch of Lustre! The deadline for submissions has now passed, I hope everyone has sent in their very best work.
I am having a quiet moment of thankfulness right now. I looked on our old desktop PC a week or so ago for my old "Writing" file, but it no longer existed. I was pretty upset that it was lost, since it had a lot of my old short stories and ideas, first drafts of the novel, pieces from Writers Circle and the correspondence course I did, heaps of stuff I was sad to lose.
Anyway, I had a look today and found a thumbdrive that I had copied the file onto - so it's not lost after all. Hooray! I will be looking through it to find some short stories to go in my collection for Smashwords. I'm thinking of 'One More Slice' as the title.

Showcase Issue 6 is out now, and the response has been great. We're looking ahead to Issue 7 and to the anthology due out later in the year. We are in the process of re-vamping the website and making sure it stays up to date and interesting. Don't be shy, come play on the website with me!
Next meeting is tomorrow, Friday 20th April. The theme for this meeting is 'Best friends, Worst enemies' - looking forward to some interesting pieces.
Don't forget to keep submitting your pieces for Showcase and the anthology. Send to [email protected] and remember to put the word submission in the subject line. Also we are now accepting ideas for the cover of the anthology, and the title. It can be related to the 30th anniversary, which is Pearl in the traditional anniversary list or Diamond in the modern.

We have a very exciting year happening at the moment. New distributors for Showcase, PiP over and done with (huge sigh of relief) and the website really moving ahead. I can't wait to see what else the year has to bring.
I'd like to say thanks to Sioban for stepping up and helping with the website. It's much more fun when someone else is playing too. I hope more and more people continue to get involved and post here so the website really comes alive.
I am preparing a workshop on editing for Friday's meeting, please all bring along a piece of work to edit. The flash fiction we were writing at the last meeting would be perfect.
If anyone has a topic they would like to see presented as a workshop, please let me know. Or if you would like to present a workshop, feel free. Sometimes the best way to learn about something is to teach it to someone else.
Looking forward to seeing you all Friday!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful time over Christmas and the New Year.
Now that the Silly Season is over, it's time to get back to work. Issue 2 of Showcase is on the stands and we need to start working towards Issue 3, due out in April.
As of now I will be accepting email submissions to [email protected]
Also ideas for the cover design, and artworks or photos or news items you would like to submit.
Have a look at the forum page I have created, called Circle Talk. I hope we can make it a fun place for lively discussions.

Moving on to the next edition of Showcase, we are pleased to welcome some input from our new friends at Aberdeen Writers Circle.
For anyone from Aberdeen who has dropped in to have a look at our website, please head on over to the Guestbook and say hi! Or leave a comment on the blog. We'd love to hear from you.
The next edition of Showcase is due out in early December. Submissions are being acepted now, so put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and get writing!
